Ruby - Jan 2010

This is Ruby. I found her at the edge of the desert, in February, a few years ago. She was underweight, scratched up, ears cracked and oozing, no ID of any kind, and completely untrained. Thinking she had some kind of mange, I took her to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. I sat in the car for a few minutes, crying because I was sure they would have to euthanize her. She wiggled out of the leash that I had her restrained with in the back and came forward to lick my tears.
What a wonderful surprise, when I did take her inside, to find that she didn't have mange at all - she was just a hairless dog, a little roughed up after a few days on her own. A week or so later, after no one claimed her, I called and raced in to adopt her and bring her home.
Of course, we fell in love with her. She is incredibly interactive, and loves it when you chat with her or read to her. She is a medium/large dog, tall and slender, weighing around 35 pounds. She is also very much the dominate dog, constantly standing up with front paws on the head and shoulders of her buddy, Blackie, our 80 pound Black Lab.
She is a Peruvian Hairless, a rarity in this country, and when our guests [we have a B&B] meet her, they are fascinated. She needs a little extra care for her skin and needs a complete wardrobe of coats, sweaters, and raincoats, but she is cuddly, warm, and very intelligent. I am so very happy that I found her that day long ago.
