Comments: While growing up, my family had at least two dogs in the household at all times. As my husband is allergic to dogs, I resigned myself to being "dogless" until we heard about Portuguese Water Dogs. We now have two and my husband has no problems at all, they even sleep in our bed at night.

Comments: Hi! We are thinking of purchasing a Glen of Imaal terrier- we think they're really cute and playful. However, a member of our family is allergic to dogs. Is the Glen terrier non-allergenic or a possibility for allergic people? If you could respond, it would much appreciated! Thanks! --- Bonmar@mediaone.net or horseygirl@aol.com

Comments: We have had two Lhasa Apsos for 12 years now and my wife who is allergic to high shedding breeds has shown no reaction. However we have now added a puppy soft coated wheaton to our colllection and my wife appears to be showing some allergic reactions. Has anybody got any ideas for products, or practices that may reduce the effect this puppy is having on my wife

Comments: My husband & I and little boy are all allergic to some types of dogs. We want to get a pet very badly, our problem, though, is that we have these names of non-allergenic dogs, etc., but how can we find one to spend some time with before we actually buy one? I called our local SPCA here in Halifax, NS, but you can't put your name on a list or anyhthing incase they happen to get a Wheaton Terrier or whatever in. You have to keep calling and checking with them. But does anyone know if you can go to a breeder and spend time with the dogs to see if there's any reaction? I'd like to do this, however, would rather adopt a dog, instead of paying hundreds of dollar for one...Any suggestions, anyone?

Comments: I have a Westie who has a terrible odor coming from his ear. It also has a blackish colored discharge. My vet gave me an ointment for him and also gave Caesar a steroid shot. They said it "may" be allergies and if it returned he would have to be tested and it's very expensive. Well it's returned and I need to take him back. Has anyone experienced this problem before? Help!!! :0)

Comments: I am highly allergic to dogs, and they cause me very bad asthma, sneezing, etc. I have heard that the Coton de Tulear (the Royal dog of Madagascar) has less dander than others. I am also considering the Bichon and Lhasa Apso. I have no problem using Allerpet or anything else. Is there anyone out there who has reactions as severe as I do who is actually able to own a dog w/o wheezing and sneezing daily? Are there any other products I should know abt?

Comments: We purchased a mini dachshund puppy for our daughter last week. Now we are discovering that our 11 year old is allergic to him. He breaks out in a rash every time the puppy licks him. He has been around this same kind of breed before and he had no reaction. He has been on allergy shots for cats, dust, mold, trees and dogs for 4 months. Does anyone have any advice on what to do other than break our daughter's heart and get rid of the puppy?

We have had allergy test done and we have her on special food, but she still continues with the allegy. Her coat and skin is excellent, except for the redness in ears and eyes. We need help on what to do.

Comments: Hello there, I find myself in a very upsetting dituation because of people in my Strata complex wanting to take me to Court about the Bichon Havanese I am getting because of the disabilities I have. Nobody has consulted me but one of the reasons to stress me out and wanting to combat a Supreme Court injunction is that they are supposedly allergic to dogs. No one has consulted me as to the tiny, hypo-allergenic dog I am getting which will not even be walking on the carpet of the building. as I will be taking her out in a bag. More importantly, I do not even see or get close to any of these people. I am asking help if someone can lead me to a Website where dander and allergies (or the lack of it in 'hair' dogs)to provide legitimate documentation to provide my lawyer in his preparations. I thank any of you who can help me in this way. Simone Greiner

Comments: I once had two extremely hairy dogs, whom I loved very much, but was forced to give tem away upon being diagnosed with allergies to dogs, cats, and dust mites. When I had the dogs, I had a chronic sinus infection. Is there any type of dog I can get that won't make me sick? Would allergy shots or any other medication help? I don't know what to do about any of this, but want a dog so badly it hurts. Any information anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Comments: Little did I know when i first got him as a puppy that i would turn out to be allergic to his fur. As he got older, it worsed, i started to develop skin rashes, so the solution to my little problem was.. try not to scratch, cause it itched a lot..and to remember to wash my hands after i pet my dog. Allergy season..? Stuffed nose, watery eyes and sneezing.. It's everything..Always remember to vaccum..take necessary antihistamines..& add more grooming especially if you have a pug dog that sheds. I'm open to any advice from other pug owners out there..

Comments: My husband desperately wants to get a dog but my son has shown allergic reactions to some dogs in the past such as Laborador Retrievers. He is now interested in Welsh Springer Spaniels. Is there any way to test my son for particular breeds of dogs, and if so, what does the testing consist of? Are these tests accurate since I would hate to buy a dog and later have to give it up for adoption because of my son's allergies???

Comments: Hi. I'm 15 and a huge dog lover. I have a standard poodle who's great, but he's my mom's dog. i've always wanted a german shepherd, and especially lately. THe problem is my 17 year old brother has bad asthma and has been allergic to dogs since he was little but isn't allergic to the poodle. I was wondering if the german shepherd is a highly allergenic breed, and if there's any shots my brother could have or anything to help him. THanks. Lisa Lisa393@aol.com

Comments: I would like to know if anyone out there have my same problem, I have a beagle (female, about 7 years old, she is a great dog very intelligent (and stubborn like all good beagles) the problem is that about 4 years ago she developed an respiratory allergy which is constant. she Sneezing all the time and leaves a discharge of a sticky green mucus. the poor thing can help it but we cannot have her in the house now she used to be an indoor dog but its so bad that she leaves that mucus everywere. we tryed vets and we know for sure that is not an infection because it's been 4 years!! of constant Sneezing we had her tested for allergies and she ended up being allergic to 9 different fungus and mold and other things that are normal in the air we tryed a treatment for about 6 to 8 months of immuno-allergy shoots every week and nothing the strange thing is that for the first 3 years she didn't have this problem then we took it to the ver for a kennel cough problem and shortly after that it happened, she use to have a skin allergy problem she is allergic to fleas very bad, that problem is gone now (it appears) but the sneezing and mucus problem is bad so if anyone out-there experience a similar problem and know of a medicine of a remedy or any ideas I would appreciate them very much. My wife used to love "Daisy" now she wants to get rid of her because we have a new baby and because all the work to clean up. thank you very much Hector hestrella@anthonytaylor.com

Comments: I had a miniature poodle for about 10 years and developed allergies to her. I haven't had a house dog for a long time, and I really want another one. Has anyone allergic to poodles been able to own another breed of dog? I am particularly interested in the Bichon Frise. I am also wondering if the new allergy sprays and rinses for dander work?

Comments: We recently discovered that our two-year old is allergic to dogs (and we have had to find a new home for our Golden Retriever). We do want a family dog, however, and would like input and information on specific breeds that are better than others for allergy sufferers. We will do all of the necessary things to minimize exposure but we want a pet that can stay indoors with us and be a part of the family. We appreciate your insight and suggestions.

Comments: I am 28 years old and have had allergic reactions to cats and dogs since I was about 4 years old. Some children "grow out" of this condition in their teenage years, unfortunatly I didn't, but I can still have pets - I just have to be careful. The pets I have need to live out of doors in our backyard. I do keep heated or cooled shelters for them - so they keep comfy in bad weather I pet, play, walk, and love on the animal - then I go wash my hands or shower, otherwise I break out in hives. If an animal lives indoors, I will itch, get a runny nose, and have asthma attacks, but I do love animals. So I give them a happy, safe, and loving life - they just can't sleep on the bed with me!

Comments: I suffer from dog and cat allergies, as does my father. I wasn't allowed a dog as a child until my mother heard that Shih Tzu tend not to cause allergies. We borrowed one for a day and none of us had problems, so we ended up with our own Shih Tzu. She was a wonderful companion for over 17 years. I just got another one last month, and again, no sign of allergies! I would HIGHLY recommend this loveable, playful breed to any allergy sufferer. We keep ours in a puppy cut and bathe her about weekly.

Comments: My girlfriend has two miniature dachshunds, and my son seems to be allergic to them. When he visits he begins to get a runny nose and watery eyes after a few hours. After he returns home from an overnight visit he continues to get worse for a short period (day or two) and then the symptoms continue for 5-7 days. He also suffers from asthma and heavy allergic reactions can trigger an asthma attack. Besides the obvious ones of changing either girlfriend or dogs, does anyone have any ideas?

Comments: Hi! Two years ago my husband and I got a bichon frise since he has an asthma history. A few weeks later I became pregnant and simultaneously allergic to him. I got an allergy blood test and was 3 out of 5. We'd like to try to get a dog for our family, but since it's a commitment I'd like to know if there's allergy testing for specific dog breeds. Would there be a skin test or blood test? If you have any insight please respond. Thanks.
